Sarah Elizabeth Younger Gainley, born in Hillsboro, Hill County, Texas, to Oran Clayton Younger and Jewel Epting Younger on February 7, 1937, passed away on January 6, 2024.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1986, George A. Gainley, Jr.; two older brothers, Donald and Robert Younger; her older sister, Mary Ann (Robert) Lieck; and younger sisters Shirley (Charles) Graham and Judy Bray. She is survived by her younger brother, George Younger of Colorado City, Texas. She is also survived by three daughters, Dawn (Clive) Roe of Port Isabel, TX; Merit Gainley of Austin, TX; Carrie (Gary) Leka of McAllen, TX; three grandsons Mark Roe of Weslaco, Michael Roe of South Padre Island and Bryce Leka of McAllen, two great grandsons Paul Evan Leka of McAllen and William James Roe of Weslaco, TX.
Sarah graduated from Brownsville High School in 1955 where she was a twirler with the Golden Eagle Band and attended Victoria College in Victoria, Texas where she was a twirler for the college band and a member of First United Methodist Church.
She worked at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show for 43 years where she was a secretary and Office Manager, watching the Show grow larger and larger every year she was there.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at Highland Memorial Park, 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 12, 2024.
