Severo met his soulmate, Maria Del Socorro Limas, in grade school. They remained friends and eventually fell in love. They married in 1960 and raised three children in Mercedes.
Severo pursued his passion for mechanics at TSTI, where he excelled and graduated as a diesel mechanic. His natural talent and dedication to his craft led him to a fulfilling career. Known for his exceptional skills, Severo's work was marked by hard work and determination, leaving a lasting impact on all those he worked with. He dedicated his days to companies such as B.D. Holt, Hygeia, and Coastal Transport, where he eventually retired in 2003. Even in his spare time, Severo found joy in working on cars or anything mechanical, a testament to his unwavering passion.
Severo found joy in simple pleasures outside work, like watching Western movies, football, especially the Dallas Cowboys, or novelas with his beloved wife, Maria. He enjoyed the outdoors and a good barbecue, as long as they involved spending time with family, friends, and Maria.
Severo's life was a testament to faith and service. His unwavering devotion to the Catholic Church was a cornerstone of his life. He served as a eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart Church in Mercedes for many years, a role that reflected his deep commitment to serving others. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always the first to extend a helping hand in times of need, inspiring those around him with his selflessness.
Severo's love for his family was immeasurable. He was a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always striving to be an excellent provider and devoted husband. His family was his world, and he showered them with love and care, leaving a legacy of familial devotion.
Severo is preceded in death by his parents, Geronimo and Sabina Medrano. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria; his daughters, Maria "Isabel" Cervantez and Consuelo Rodriguez (Rolando), of Weslaco; his son, Severo Medrano Jr., of San Antonio; grandchildren Elizabeth Cervantez, Cristian Cervantez, Erica Torres (Emmanuel), Sabina Medrano, Natalie Medrano, Rolando Rodriguez Jr., and Rebecca Rodriguez; and great-grandchildren Emmanuel Jr., Emily, and Emmitt Torres.
Visitation will be Monday, May 13th, 1-9 pm and Tuesday, May 14th, 9 am-9 pm, with a Holy Rosary at 7 pm. A Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes at 1 pm on May 15, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
