Weslaco/Kansas City: Sharon Ann Gerlack, 79, passed away at her home in Weslaco, TX on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Sherry was born on July 26, 1942, in East St. Louis, Illinois to Byron “Barney” Lee Brennan and Dorothy Pauline (Hagen) Brennan. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and mainly Kansas City. After graduating high school, Sherry attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri. She got married in Kansas City and had two boys, Jeff and Greg.
Sherry met Joe Gerlack in Kansas City in the early 1980s, and they spent the rest of their lives together. Seeking a warmer climate, Joe and Sherry spent a few years in Bella Vista, Arkansas, before settling in south Texas/Weslaco, Texas in the early 2000s. Sherry and Joe quickly bonded within the local community, making special friends for life.
Sherry enjoyed genealogy and spent countless hours researching family connections. The family was so important to Sherry; she was so proud of her children and grandchildren, and she never missed an opportunity to tell them how much she loved them.
Sherry enjoyed watching hallmark movies, putting puzzles together, going to church, and watching sports, especially her beloved University of Kansas Jayhawk basketball team and Kansas City Chiefs, and spending time with her close Texas friends.
Sherry had an infectious smile, and her presence meant laughter and fun. Sherry had a heart of gold. She was generous, thoughtful, and kind. She had a way of making everyone feel special and loved.
Sherry is preceded in death by her parents, Barney (1984) and Dorothy Brennan (2018), and her loving husband of thirty-five years, Joe Gerlack (2018).
She is survived by her sons - Jeff Buchanan and Greg Buchanan (Stacy), step-daughter - Karen Zahner (Mark), grandchildren - Corrie Buchanan, Jake Buchanan, TJ Zahner and Jessica Zahner, great-grandchildren - Ahnalia and Alexis, brother - Jim Brennan (Cheryl), and sisters- Kelly Mills (Scott), and Joan Roan, along with three nieces and two nephews.
