Weslaco- Silvestre Valdez, Jr., 51, passed away on Wednesday, April 15th, 2020 at his home in Weslaco after several years of battling diabetes.
Silvestre was born in Driggs, Idaho to Sylvestre Valdez and Marta Reyes Valdez. He was the oldest of eight children. Silvestre grew up in Weslaco and went to work in the agriculture industry while he was still in high school. He was a hard worker and learned to drive the cotton gin, which is where he spent most of his career, like his father.
Silvestre was “always in everyone’s business”. He took his responsibility of being the eldest very seriously and was always calling on his brothers and sisters to check on them. If they didn’t answer, he was sure to check on them via Facebook. He also lived with his parents and helped with their needs.
Silvestre will always be remembered by his laughter and jovial spirit. He always had a joke to tell or a prank to play. He loved to have a good time and a barbecue with family and friends.
Silvestre was also a sports fanatic and loved watching all sports, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, basketball, college ball, any sport would suffice. He also loved to watch rooster fights, a local tradition, as long as there was a game, he was interested in.
