Stanley G. "Stan" Wiegand

Houston/Weslaco-Stanley "Stan" G. Wiegand, 54, passed away suddenly at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston on Friday, May 26th, 2023. 

Stanley was born in San Antonio, Texas. However, he spent his childhood and teenage years in Weslaco, where Dr. Craig and Marguerite Wiegand raised him. Stan was active in the Boy Scouts, Troop 34, at the First United Methodist Church, where the Wiegands were members for over sixty years. Stan loved Batman and Robin, GI-Joe, Armymen, and Legos. He also enjoyed fishing with his family, a pastime he continued all his life. 

Stanley loved all sports. He played football and ran track for the Weslaco Panthers in high school. He was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Many of Stan's teachers described him as a "defender of the underdogs." Stan had a big heart and stood up for his beliefs. Bullying was off-limits when Stan was around. 

After graduating from Weslaco High School in 1987, Stan attended Texas A&M. He immersed himself into the Aggie culture and joined the Chi Phi Fraternity. Stan earned a BA Degree in Communication. 

Stan moved to Houston and went to work as a Certified Financial Planner for Waddel & Reed Financial Services. After a decade of financial advising, in 1999, Stan decided to follow his passion for music, DJing, and entertainment. 

Stan's excellent taste in music and his natural ability to read any crowd were a recipe for success. Over the next twenty-four years, he became infamous, DJing all around the metro Houston area. In addition, Stan provided professional DJ services for weddings, school functions, private parties, and special events. Eventually, Stan's talent led him to become a production manager at GTX Productions. He orchestrated and coordinated massive projects, including productions at Minute Maid Park.

On November 3rd, 2015, Stan married the love of his life, Shawn Halbert. He and Shawn spent countless weekends on the beach for the next eight years. Whether it was Galveston, South Padre, or Corpus, they loved the ocean. Stan took an interest in his bride's hobby of collecting sea shells and constantly added beautiful ones. Shawn took equal interest in Stan's collection of coins, which was extensive and impressive, along with his love of music. 

Stan's character was unwavering. The once high school-described "defender of the underdogs" was now, as an adult, known for his selfless personality. He could fix anything and would readily drop his plans to help a friend or even a stranger. These characteristics earned him the nickname "Stan the Man." 

Stan's love of sports was also a lifelong passion. He watched all sports, college and professional. Stan's favorite football team was his alma mater, The Texas A&M Aggies. Stan was excellent on the grill. He was known for his mouth-watering ribs that would melt in your mouth. However, he could grill anything to near perfection. He and his wife loved to cook together.  

Stan's outgoing, friendly, and caring personality earned him many lifelong friendships. He kept in touch with childhood friends and continually added new friends. 

Stan is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Craig Wiegand, and father-in-law, James Halbert. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Shawn Halbert Wiegand, mom Marguerite Wiegand, and his sister, Jeanne Lynn Wiegand; aunts, Twila Wallace, Jeanne Yancey, and Mildred Cohen; uncles, Pete and Wylie Johnson; mother-in-law, Mary Jo Halbert, sister and brother-in-law, Jason and Heidi Valerius, aunt Darlene and Jodie Halbert, uncle Mike and Tish Hunt, and aunt Cindy Burns, numerous cousins, and countless friends. Stan is also survived by their "fur babies," cats Little One and Peanut, who he adored. 

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 9th, 2023, at 10:30 am, at the First United Methodist Church in Weslaco.
