Syble was born in Smithville, Mississippi, March 28, 1919 to Jesse and Bertha Beachum. She came to the Rio Grande Valley in 1924 with her parents and six siblings. Syble grew up in Raymondville, Texas, where she graduated from High School in 1936. She received her B.S. Degree from Texas A & I University, Kingsville, Texas. She taught school for thirty years: three in Los Fresnos, TX and five in Brownsville, TX prior to moving to Weslaco in 1957 where she taught for twenty-two years. In April 1943, Syble married Glynn Weldon Gilcrease who was employed in the produce business in Los Fresnos and she was teaching school. She was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church in Weslaco. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Assn., Delta Kappa Gamma National Honorary Society, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and volunteered many hours at Knapp Hospital, Weslaco. Syble was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn Weldon Gilcrease, Sr., her parents, four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glynn Weldon Jr. and DeLaine Gilcrease of Tempe, Arizona, a daughter Linda Kneese of Richardson, Texas. Also surviving are 2 grandsons, Dr. Glynn Weldon Gilcrease III and Gregory Winston Gilcrease, four granddaughters: Vanessa (Shane) Petty, Kristen (German) Crespi, Lesley (Scotty) Franks and Laura (Michalis) Charalambides. She is also survived by four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
