Sylvia Dickinson Strickler Sawyer, born in Providence, RI on January 16, 1921 to Helen and Guy Strickler, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the age of 94. She attended Smith College, and went on to graduate from Pembroke College in Brown University. During WWII, she worked as a cryptanalyst in Washington, DC and later taught school in the Bahamas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Maine. After moving to Connecticut, she was head librarian at Suffield Academy in Suffield, CT, and later served the school as Assistant to the Headmaster. In addition, she used her writing skills as a reporter for the Hartford Courant.
She and her husband David travelled extensively during their retirement years, finally settling in Weslaco, TX. She is survived by her husband of 67 years David, her son Michael Sawyer (Susan), and her grandchildren Gregory and Ian of Lakewood, CO.
