Weslaco- Tomasita Vasquez "Ama Tome", went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, June 4, 2016. She was born on March 12, 1925 in Rio Grande City, Texas to Primitivo and Policarpia Garza. She had 5 brothers, Isidro, Gustavo, Cipriano, and Regulo, and Heriberto and 4 sisters Emma, Alicia, Josefina and Lalia. She married the love of her life, Frank Vasquez, at the young age of 15 and they would have a beautiful life and marriage, raising their 12 children in a strong, humble, Christian Home. Tomasita was a wonderful homemaker and she would care for the home and children so that Frank could be the provider. The children and most of the neighbors will never forget Tomasita's kind soul, cooking many meals for the whole neighborhood. She was known throughout the neighborhood, city, school district, and even the county courthouse, as a the "great tamale maker". What they may not have known is, all though God gifted her with great homemaking skills, she was praying for each and every one of those she served and even strangers. Tomasa can most be remembered as a true servant of God. She loved serving her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her friends, but all in the name of her Lord Jesus Christ. Tomasa was a devout Christian and she demonstrated this throughout her 91 years of life, bringing many to accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. She would pray every evening for 2 hours and by 6am, the Bible was open at the table. She saved many souls throughout her ministry and brought her children up to be God-Fearing adults and parents themselves, two of them evening becoming pastors. Tomasa is preceded in death by her parents, Primitivo and Policarpia Garza, her loving husband, Frank Vasquez, her son, Jose Luis, her son in law, Sam Saldivar, and her sisters, Josefina Garza and Lalia Garza and her brother, Heriberto Perez. She is survived by her brothers, Isidro Garza, Gustavo Garza, Cipriano Perez and Regulo Perez, her sisters, Emma Ramirez and Alicia Perez, her sons, Juan (Graciela)Vasquez, Frank (Josefa) Vasquez, Ruben (Irma) Vasquez, Silverio (Tila)Vasquez, Rev. Abel (Bertha) Vasquez, and Amador Valdez, her daughters, Evangelina Alvarez, Rosalinda (Antonio) Hernandez, Diana (Ramon) Fuentes, Teresita (Jose) Rodriguez, and Rev. Norma (Sam+) Saldivar. She also leaves behind 31 grandchildren, 62 great grand children and 1 great-great grandchild. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 5th, from 4-9pm. A celebration of life will be held Monday, June 6th, at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Officiating will be her son, Rev. Able Vasquez. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Alvarez, Rene Vasquez, Luis Hernandez, Mike Fuentes, and Roy Fuentes.
