Weslaco- Tommy Wayne Pemelton, 79, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. He was born on December 10, 1940, to Buick Pemelton and Wanda Fae Evans in Mercedes, Texas. Tommy’s dad passed away when he was only six years old.
Tommy grew up in Weslaco. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Airforce. Tommy was honorably discharged and started taking classes at Texas A&M. He also met Patsy Reiter, and they were married in 1962.
The couple settled in Weslaco, and Tommy worked hard to provide for the family. He worked for KRGV and as a game warden at King Ranch before he began a twenty-five-year career at Continental Can Company.
After retiring from Continental Can, Tommy got his pilot’s license and spent some time flying planes. He also decided he needed a second career, so at 56 years old, Tommy joined the police academy. He worked as a police officer for Mercedes PD and then Weslaco PD before retiring in 2008.
Tommy set an exemplary life of dedication to family and service to others. He was always up for a challenge and not afraid to fail. When Tommy wasn’t working, his favorite past-time was golf. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time in his boat. He loved Texas A&M and bled maroon, a real fan of any sport they were playing.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, his aunt, and uncle.
