Weslaco- Vicki Lynn Strobel Shields Bergstrom: Vicki was born on January 25th, 1952 to Eugene C. Strobel and Geraldine V. Spletstoser at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Vicki was reared in Donna with her brother Gene, where she excelled in multiple areas, with special notoriety for her presence in music and as the Drum Major for the Donna Redskin Band. After graduating from high school, Vicki earned her Bachelor's degree from Texas A&I in Kingsville and became an elementary schoolteacher in Edna, TX from 1973-1979. Vicki left teaching to pursue her historical career in the life and property & casualty insurance industry. Always inspired by a challenge, Vicki began working in sales at American National and her historical career was carved right from the beginning, becoming the first woman to sell over $100,000 in premium in her very first year. She moved up to management and managed several agency branches throughout Texas. By the late 1990s, Vicki had worked her way up the corporate ladder and was Marketing Director for Travelers' Insurance. She continued in insurance working for Hanover and Germania insurance companies in executive roles until 2010 when she decided to move back to the Valley and open her own insurance consulting firm. Entrusted by many local businesses for her insurance expertise, she most notably and recently consulted for a local agency beyond the extent of the Valley into global affairs and Lloyds of London. Considering her vast accomplishments, Vicki will mostly be remembered for and by her loves; her family, her faith, and her business relationships. She was very active in her church, Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Weslaco, where she led the congregation as its President. She was dedicated to her family and her clients, working countless hours to ensure their prosperity. Vicki was also a talented musician and had a beautiful voice while singing in church choirs for over 50 years. Vicki is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Reinhardt and Malinda Spletstoser, paternal grandparents, Eugene and Marie Strobel, father, Eugene C. Strobel, and brother, Gene Strobel. She is survived by her mother, Geraldine V. Shields, and stepfather, C.B. Shields of Delta Lake, son Christian E. Bergstrom and son-in-law Dr. John R. Bergstrom of Jupiter, FL.
