Walter Wilkins

WESLACO - Walter Eroy Wilkins, 70, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his residence in Weslaco. Walter was born March 26, 1946 in Naval Station San Diego, California to Walter and Thelma Busby Wilkins. He grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas where he was very active in sports, excelling in football and baseball. He played for Corpus Christi Carroll when they were a state powerhouse 1961-1965. Shortly after high school, he met the love of his life, Mary Kathryn Davenport; and they were married in 1968. They had three children, James Trey, Walter David, and Cara Lyn. They raised their children in Corpus Christi where Walter worked as a computer systems analyst for Mercantile Bank and later Texas Commerce Bank. Working in the computer banking industry led to moves with the family to San Antonio and eventually to Houston; finishing up his career with Chase Bank and ViewStar. Walter was a faithful devoted Catholic. He exemplified this to his wife, his children, family and friends. He and his wife raised their children to love God and all others around them. His hobbies mostly consisted of Church life, being a loving husband and father, and computer geek. He and Kathy were extremely active participants in Church life including: Eucharistic ministers, Scouts, Youth Programs, and Religious Education. Eroy was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, his only sister, Lucille Claybo, and his loving wife, Mary Kathryn. He is survived by his sons, James Trey Wilkins, of Mission, Texas; Walter David Wilkins and wife, Angie, of Weslaco, Texas; and his daughter, Cara Lyn Roach and husband, Shawn, of Humble, Texas; and his grandchildren, Ashley, Cody, Tyler, Camryn, and Phillip Wilkins; and Nicholas, Alexandria "Seesa", and Amanda Castellano. Walter will always be remembered as a faithful devoted Catholic, loving husband and father, who was driven toward a faithful life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to a favorite charity; or Kathy & Eroy's favorite charity: St Jude's Childrens Hospital. Thank for all your support. God Bless Always.
