Weslaco- Warren Lee Freads, 83, passed away on March 19, 2018, at home in Weslaco, Texas. Born February 14, 1935, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Floyd Freads and Frances Soukop Freads, he grew up in Shelby, Iowa on his family farm, and was an only child. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Wendt in 1955, and they spent the rest of their lives together. Warren attended Iowa State College and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha for over 32 years in the Mechanical Department and became the Director of Industrial Engineering. He was offered early retirement and gladly accepted. In his spare time, Warren worked on cars and motorcycles. He loved music of all kinds and played the piano. He enjoyed reading and collecting interesting things. After retirement, he and Marilyn were able to travel and spend time with family and friends. Warren was particularly interested in genealogy and traveled all over the U.S. and Europe tracing his ancestry. In the early 90s, Warren and Marilyn starting spending winters in the south Texas Rio Grande Valley and eventually moved to John Knox Village in Weslaco, where they enjoyed the company of many good friends. Warren is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd & Frances Freads and his son, Robert Freads. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Marilyn; his daughters, Marla Revelle of Apollo Beach, FL, and Sherry Greczmiel of Studio City, CA, grandson Justin Steyer, granddaughter Elysia Hornbeck; and great-grandson Jude Hornbeck.
