Zelda T. Pealor

PROGRESO LAKES - Zelda Mae Pealor, 96, left this earth around 5:45 am on September 1, 2016, at Knapp Med Center, Weslaco, TX after a short illness. Zelda, born January 9, 1920, in Burleson County TX was the 7th and last surviving child of Georgia and William Thorpe of Hix Community Burleson County Texas. Zelda graduated from Caldwell High School and went on to work in Bryan TX where she met the love of her life, James P. Pealor, Jr. who was a student at Texas A&M. They married on May 20, 1943, in Gause, TX. James left A&M to serve in the US Army and was deployed to Germany during WWII. Zelda waited for his return and lived in La Villa, TX with her in-laws Ida and James Pealor, Sr. Zelda served in many serving capacities. She was active in her church, First Methodist Church of Edcouch, TX. She was active in Eastern Star Chapter of Edcouch serving as matron-of-honor several times. She also served on the Hidalgo County Cotillion Board for many years. She was active in the Delta Area Women's Club even being elected Woman of the Year. All five daughters were members of the EEHS band and Zelda was active in the Parent Group for many years. She manned the snack bar at many football games. She also was a girl scout leader during the years and a counselor at Camp Lula Sams for many years. Zelda positively influenced a lot of lives with timeless work and kind words. Zelda leaves behind five daughters, Zelda Beth Dudley, Georgia Ann Emery (Butch), Peggy Sue McCown (Marvin), Jimmie Jane Haas and Mary Lynn Redden (Gary). Zelda leaves nine grandchildren, Lisa Kurtz (Bob), James Dudley (Ann Margaret), Wendy Sonnen (Randy), Camille Bayer (Cameron), Jake Christian (Marcia), John Christian (Christy) Jack McCown (Jessica), Cristy Olson (Eric), Melissa Redden and Geri Ann Redden. Zelda has 16 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016, 2pm at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco. A memorial service is scheduled for 3:30 pm at John Knox Village in Weslaco. Funeral arrangements are under the care of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
